I have developed my own ecommerce website using the hosts simple shopping cart linked to Paypal, I am now wanting to integrate something a bit more ‘robust’, I have looked at oscommerce/zencart and cubecart but all of these are linked to templates (which I really don’t like, I’ve yet to see a great looking site made from one of these!) I want a cart that I can integrate to my own site. Can anyone suggest anything?

I have used CubeCart (v3) pretty extensively and it’s template system is VERY easy to use. Sure there are thousands of stores out there that are pretty boring and look like one of the basic CC templates, but there are also many others that you can’t even tell are using Cubecart unless you really know what you are looking for. It all comes down to how you design (or redesign) the templates. Maybe you have seen great looking sites and you didn’t even realize it was CubeCart!

For example, this is one store I did in CC which is quite a bit different than the default templates: https://www.americanblueberrycompany.com

I recommend against osCommerce/zen if you want to have an enjoyable experience in creating a customized template.

I have been looking at the Magento Commerce open source store lately. I haven’t spent too much time looking at the code yet, but it looks nice. Of course it all comes down to template and functionality, but I might be giving this a try on my next store. http://www.magentocommerce.com/

hii want to make my own online store.
im currently only on the layout stages for it. www.socialemo.com/purchase/index.php
but if you take a look there and scroll down a bit to the words; shop by category:

then there is a bunch of categories of items id like to sell eventually. i was wondering. is there anything i have to do lawwise to sell online and not to mention sell those specific things. i am in the united states(wa).

i was mainly wondering if you need to(or i need to) get a vendors license to do this webstore i am making.

also i have googled all over ect.. ect…

and ihave not found much on vendors licenses and laws/rules for selling online. the only thing i know is that u dont need to have an ssl certificate but most people strongly prefer to buy from a site that has one. i want to get one and ive researched how to do it with my current hosting ectt…

but i was just wondering if anyone knows ANYTHING about making a webstore online.

i’ve heard things like you have to charge taxes. and if you sell to other countries shipments have to go through something called customs.

im a real newb being ive never EVER sold online before much less had my own webstore. so if ANY of you have ANY information on anything related to having ur own webstore and selling online im just asking for advice. info . whatever.

id like to also mention that i am NOT going to like NOT SELL FROM MY SITE. if i have a webstore i want to sell from my website i have socialemo.com.

ive seen things like ebay and vendio where u can sell online(ebay from ebay.com & vendio from vendio.com and/or your own domain name) but im really interested in making my own layout and coding it completely myself so im not going to go that route… nor am i going to use an online cart like zencart because i like making the layout my own and ect…

so that being stated.. anyone have ANY advice, thots, opinions, ect??? i kind of need help with this because ive googled a lot and found like nothing.

To find out about the license, contact your states secretary of state.

As far as sales tax, if you sell to someone in your state, you have to collect state sales tax, which means you would have to acquire a state tax ID. If you sell to someone out of your state, you do not have to collect sales tax.

Most items going out of the country has to go through customs. Not everything can be sold and shipped overseas.

i want to start my ebiz finally, i have a hosting plan with host gator, i don’t want to pay the 30 dollars a month to "have your own store" i want to setup my own shopping cart. i am just over whelmed with the options and making it secure.

i read up on virtuemart, zencart, oscommerce, etc. but those are all free, when it comes to setup, im not sure, so what are some good shopping carts, advice on setting them up, i would prefer a shoping cart you pay for because "you get what you pay for"

any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

Take a look at:

http://www.threehosts.com/business

There you can reach the three reputable companies that are leaders in the E-commerce web hosting industry. They fulfill all your requirements to sell online or do/accept any online payments. By using each of them, everything you need for such a website is provided in one business Hosting Package.

Hope this helps.

what is the best solution for webhosting/ecommerce when it comes to starting an online business.

right now i have an account with host-gator. I tried the whole yahoo stores/ebay stores {prostores} and hate the generic templates along with the monthly fee for using them. I just want to install my own shopping cart, from my knowledge i gained so far i like zencart and oscommerce, maybe cubecart.

but if someone has a guide for webhosting it would be great or a checklist, heres what i need to know, plus any additional information you would like to give.

best site for web hosting/ecommerce, using "host gator" right now.

best merchant solutions along with best shopping cart.

anything else i need to know?

Here’s about 100.000 pages about it:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=best+merchant+solutions+along+with+best+shopping+cart.&btnG=Google+Search

Firstly I’m totally new to this.

I’m trying to set up an e-commerce site .. I have a domain from UK cheapest and intending to use a free webhost.. (000webhost so far)

My questions are :

Does OScommerce install to a template site provided by the hosting site ?

Can I upload ZenCart even though the hosting site does not provide it .. i.e I can’t use the cPanel’s Fantastico auto installer.

Can I use a website or pages I’ve made myself instead of the templates which tend to be a bit ugly.. if so how can I get OScommerce / Zencart to work on it.

Any other guidance would be appreciated .. sorry if all this sounds dumb .. but as I said I’m new to this.

For either oscommerce or zencart (and other similar setups), you basically dump the whole package in a subdirectory of the site’s base directory, using FTP.

You then work your way through the rest of the install instructions, setting permissions on some directories (again using your FTP client) and doing more customisation via a web browser.

You can set up the site index page to auto-refresh to the zencart page if you wish, or have the shop part as a separate sub-page of the site.

Within zencart, you customise it by editing the existing template pages or adding your material (based on the template) in appropriately named subdirectories. You can also replace the default logo file with your own site logo image, but make sure it’s a suitable size first..

When you first use it, expect to spend a few days just studying and experimenting, it is a very complex system to initially get your head around.

If you do the customisations properly, by basically making your own custom theme under a new name, your files are used in preference to the built-in ones so you can update the package without losing your own mods.

Read through the info on customising in the package’s web site, it’s all in there somewhere it can just take a bit of finding.

I am starting my ecommerce business, should i use a pay-per-month site like prostores, yahoo stores, etc. or use a hosting account along with a shopping cart like zencart, oscommerce, virtuemart, etc.?

what are some top shopping carts if i choose to host it myself? and are there guides for installation?

thanks

Best option with protection, pay per month, prostores, or yahoo is ok .. and sites are more protected plus you have paypal and credit card options installed free, without need to installing..
and you have search engines free as well..

Good luck and have a great day ..

Are your customers going to do business with you, or are they going to do everything themselves and not deal with you?

Why, if you’re not in the web development business, do you thik you can develop your own commercial website? Do you know how to protect your customers’ credit card info that’s stored on your database? (Did you know that if someone hacks into that database, steals your customers’ info and buys things with your customers’ credit card accounts, you’re financially liable?)

You wouldn’t perform your own brain surgery or represent yourself in court, so why would you risk your business to save a few dollars on website development?

Hi, I just started trying to open a store for the online CCG SAGA, but to my horror, the site I used didn’t have a ‘amount to sell’ option. That means people can carry on ‘buying’ product after product and I would have to keep apologising to them that its sold out.

So, I’m looking for a new site to host my store. If it allows me to set up a store using their own interface, good. If not, as long as it allows ZenCart I’m fine.
